Posed vs. Candid.. A Photographer’s Debate {Waynesboro Family Photographer}

June 22nd, 2009

I would have to say that about 60% of my clients ask for candid family shots, yet when placing an order only about 10% of the prints ordered are of candid shots. I think this is a struggle for most custom photographers, so what do I do? And especially, what do I do when Mom [...]

I would have to say that about 60% of my clients ask for candid family shots, yet when placing an order only about 10% of the prints ordered are of candid shots. I think this is a struggle for most custom photographers, so what do I do? And especially, what do I do when Mom wants posed and Dad wants candid.. Well, BOTH of course! :)

I debated back and forth about the title to this post. Option #2 was: 4 Kids and a Mommy. As you will see, Daddy was the biggest kid of them all! He did manage to struggle through the posed part of the session and then brought out the big guns for the candid moments! I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you guys, H Family!! It was a blast!

So here we go! I’ll start with posed:

Chris & Brandi.. June 13th, 2009 {Charlottesville Wedding Photographer}

June 19th, 2009

I get asked about every couple of months if I photograph weddings & my answer is typically “No.” I don’t completely rule them out, but for where I am in my life with young kids, I’m just not ready to give up most Saturdays that I would like to spend with my family (not to [...]

I get asked about every couple of months if I photograph weddings & my answer is typically “No.” I don’t completely rule them out, but for where I am in my life with young kids, I’m just not ready to give up most Saturdays that I would like to spend with my family (not to mention the amount of time it takes to process wedding pictures after the fact). Though, after much prodding, I was convinced to do a wedding last weekend by some friends! So, here I am… a wedding photographer?? Maybe not just yet, but keep an eye out… I will be doing some 2nd shooting with a local photographer a bit later in the Summer.

I feel so lucky to have been asked by Chris & Brandi to photograph the memories from their wedding day. I’ve known them for a couple of years now and was so excited to see them tie the knot. I showed up on time to take pics of the bride getting ready, but due to a sudden fall out of the sky, I ended up not being able to run into the church until the weather settled down a bit. Luckily Brandi waited for me a little bit before getting into her dress! The skies parted just in time for the wedding!! Congrats to you both and thanks for letting me be a part of it.

Hold on! Before the sneak peek, I’m proud to say that I was featured on NBC 29 for my new C’Ville Entremom Site! Check out the news clip if you get a chance!!

6 Day Old Sweet Baby J.. {Charlottesville Newborn Photography}

June 7th, 2009

I have been so excited to meet Mr. J. He is the newest addition to our neighborhood and the younger brother of one of my favorite models. We squeezed him in for a quick session on Thursday in my studio. I typically go to the baby’s home for newborn pics, but at mommy’s request, we [...]

We squeezed him in for a quick session on Thursday in my studio. I typically go to the baby’s home for newborn pics, but at mommy’s request, we held the session in my studio. I was excited to play with my lights at hand! Mr. J is one of the most chill babies that I have ever seen. I don’t think he cried once while here. He mostly just sat and took in all that there was to see and hear! You are a cutie pie Mr. J! His full head of hair is just too cute!

Mr. Blue Eyes.. {Charlottesville Baby Photographer}

I would actually say he is more like a 6 month old… He is almost sitting (amazing!!) and has already found out how fun it is to play with his toes. With a little help, I was able to prop him up in a basket (without the help of a Bumbo, which I typically use at this age). Did I mention his eyes are to die for?? He is going to be a heartbreaker for sure! I’m so glad I broke out my green blanket for this shoot. I think the green really makes Mr. G’s eyes stand out! Thanks for all the smiles today Mr. Blue Eyes! I look forward to our 8 month session & watching you grow!

10 Days of Adorable! {Charlottesville Newborn Photography}

May 30th, 2009

I drove to Richmond yesterday to meet little Mr. G. He is a 10 day old cutie pie! I loved seeing how relaxed this family was given that this is baby #1. (So refreshing compared to the stress ball that I was with #1). Mr. G already has quite a personality: hates tummy & loves [...]

(So refreshing compared to the stress ball that I was with #1). Mr. G already has quite a personality: hates tummy & loves really, really loud white noise (think Dyson beside the on full blast beside the crib). He is going to be a heart-breaker for sure!

On another note, I just got a Macro lens & am loving it. It is the perfect lens to get photos of all the little baby parts. Check out the close up of Mr. G. Adorableness!! I enjoyed meeting you Mr. G & look forward to our 6 month session!

A Relative Playdate {Charlottesville Child Photographer}

I love watching my newborn clients grow up!! Soon after Little Miss A’s newborn session in January, her mommy called me to set up a session for Spring when her brother and his family were in town.. The challenge: 6 month old (not yet sitting up), 1 year old (not yet walking) & 2 year [...]

I love watching my newborn clients grow up!! Soon after Little Miss A’s newborn session in January, her mommy called me to set up a session for Spring when her brother and his family were in town.. The challenge: 6 month old (not yet sitting up), 1 year old (not yet walking) & 2 year old (all over the place) all together. I love a good challenge and to my amazement.. the kids did great! We tried to start out day at a scenic vineyard in Crozet, but that didn’t pan out so well for us. After some quick thinking, we moved the shoot to the Old Trail clubhouse! I had never done a shoot there & it was perfect and the staff was very gracious! How cute are these little ones? They all have amazing eyes!

Little Miss S is such a sweet little baby. She even did some sleeping for us so that we could get some semi-newborn shots. Big brother Mr. D was as busy as usual! He showed off his soccer skills in the back yard for me!

On Sunday, I got together with an old friend.. from both high school and college. She had the most precious little girl. Miss C is a spitfire! I seriously had trouble keeping up with her. As an added bonus, she provided me with my workout for the day. We met a one of the most beautiful houses I’ve ever seen! The landscaping was to die for!
